Gumbop (patterns) practice is the core of sword training. This involves the learning and practice of increasingly complex technique sequences. It is through patterns that we learnmost of our cutting and guarding techniques, alongside various strategies for dealing with multiple opponents and different scenarios. It enhances physical attributes such as spontaneous power generation, balance, spinning techniques as well as the ability to concentrate.
For most students, simply learning the techniques and their order is challenging enough. Advanced students are encouraged to explore each pattern in greater depth, seeking technical refinement and essential principles that are important for development cutting and sparring skills.
