Term 3 news
October 26, 2011 by kristen
Wow, what a massive Term this has been!
A big congratulations to all students who graded at the end of Term 3 in front of Master Andrew and/or Master Oh. A special mention must be made for our two new 3rd Dans – Alejo Rivas and Instructor Nausicaa Joannes! Both candidates were part of an exceptionally strong group of four students who attempted this significant grade. Both Nausicaa and Alejo passed with flying colours! Well done!
This term was also incredibly hectic for tournaments and other events. Senior Instructor Kristen participated in the 2011 TA Nationals in Canberra, and the Australian Uni Games in Brisbane this term, scoring a bronze in the first and a silver in the second.
This year’s Haidong Gumdo nationals saw a very strong group of students sit for 1st Dan right through to 6th Dan before Australian HG President Master Oh and World HG Vice President Master Lee. This group included our very own Emily Cullen, who sat for 1st Dan. Congratulations to Emily on her massive efforts at the Grading and in all her training leading up to this weekend.
As part of the NSW Team, White Tiger/Element’s students Penny and Instructor Mark Underwood put on an outstanding performance, with Penny scoring Bronze in patterns and silver in paper cutting, and Mark scoring bronze in both live blade paper cutting and bamboo cutting. Senior Instructor Kristen also came away with a gold medal in female black belt (18-38yrs) patterns as well.
Overall we had 19 competitors, competing in 40 events/divisions: 34 medals! 14 GOLD, 13 SILVER, 5 BRONZE. And we can’t forget the BEST MASTER AWARD for NSW President, Master Andrew. Hills District Haidong Gumdo, who were also part of the NSW team, also came away with a swag of medals as well. NSW did exceptionally well, with some very tight competition. We can’t forget our incredible cheer squad, led by the indefatigable Megan Williamson!
Congratulations to everyone on their massive efforts and achievements this year!
